Description
Daniel and Florence Guerlain have been collecting contemporary art for about thirty years and were quickly enthraled by drawing. They compiled a collection gathering the works of more than two hundreds artists, from more than thirty different countries.
In 1996, they created the first contemporary art foundation in France and organised meetings and conferences with plastic artists... until they created in 2006 the Contemporary Art Drawing Prize. At first a biennial event, this Prize now takes place every year and is considered as a major reference in the matter.
Deep rooted in the artistic landscape since 2006, the Contemporary Art Drawing Prize celebrates its 10th birthday in 2017. So as to highlight this event, the Centre Pompidou - to whom Daniel and Florence Guerlain granted a 1 200 drawings donation in 2012 - organises an exhibition about the artists who have been distinguished by the Prize since its creation.
This exhibition will be produced by the graphic art cabinet of the french national modern art museum, under the direction of Jonas Storsve. It will present a hundred drawings, created by about thirty international artists.
This catalogue - written by Jonas Storsve, Daniel and Florence Guerlain - traces the path of this outstanding exhibition.
