Description

« Myth is timeless, as painting has become. My works usually revolve around stories that are so old we cannot determine their origin. It is the very idea of the origin that interests me, no doubt precisely because it can't be found ! Just as the truth of myth is utterly elusive. » Gérard Garouste Gérard Garouste is one of the major figures of French painting. This monograph presents the artist's journey through the great mythological sources he has drawn from in order to build his oeuvre. Whether literary, biblical or personal, these myths are the framework of his painting and have fed, for over forty years, his quest for meaning, as well as his philosophical and poetic investigations.

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Gérard Garouste - The Other Side presented at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.
