"The works from the endowment fund were not gathered over two generations - by Jean-Jacques Lebel and his father - with the intention of forming a collection. They reflect friendships built over time, strong artistic and political commitments, as well as an insatiable curiosity for other social, ethnographic, geographical, and historical territories," essay by Anne Montfort-Tanguy.

Description

The catalog of the exhibition "Chaosmosis" brings together works from the Jean-Jacques Lebel endowment fund and the National Museum of Modern Art.

An undisciplined journey through the passions of the 20th century up to the present day, through struggles and revolts, this catalog highlights those who were both artists, painters, sculptors, thinkers, poets, advocates of all forms of action art, cultural agitators, virtuosos of assemblage and collage.

By challenging generally accepted categories, whether mental and/or geographical, the aim is ultimately to propose alternative histories of art and ways of seeing.
