About the Artwork

Mit dem schwarzen Bogen (Avec l’arc noir)

Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944)
Avec l'arc noir
1912
Oil on canvas
189 x 198 cm
In this abstract work, three blocks of colors, arranged in triangle are linked in tension by a large black line, a douga, this arched piece of wood, essential for the coupling of Russian troika. With Mit dem schwazren Bogen, Vassily Kandinsky affirms that the construction of a painting can be based on the principle of dissociation of lines and colors as well as the dissonance, the form seeming ready to collide.
