All the most important Surrealist exhibitions have been accompanied so far by special limited editions.
These books represent per se incredible artworks.
In 1947, Marcel Duchamp sticked a silicone breast on the cover of the catalogue of the Maeght Gallery
exhibition. Twelve years later, Mimi Parent and Marcel Duchamp transformed the Eros exhibition catalogue
at the Cordier Gallery into a surprising Mail Box inviting to leave erotic messages.
Mona Hatoum continues this tradition conceiving the limited edition of the stunning Dictionary of the Surrealist Object.
The mirror book cover is a reference to Rimbaud, source of poetic inspiration for Surrealists.
«Je est un autre» summarizes the questioning of rationality which is introduced by the Surrealist object.
Didier Ottinger
Mona Hatoum
Born in Beirut in 1952 and now living between London and Berlin, Mona Hatoum questions body limits, whether it is the human or the social ones.
She creates works from organic and industrial materials such as pieces of hair, body fluids or wire netting. Electricity, magnetism, temperature, sound and video are all elements that can be added to her artworks to bring more efficiently the viewer into the center of the scene.
Due to its fragility, we are not able to deliver the product at home. It will be made available at the Centre Pompidou
