9782844269843
The world of comics is at the heart of the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art at the Center Pompidou. On level 5, six historical masters of comics are exhibited as a counterpoint to the permanent exhibition of the modern collection (1900-1960). Description

The catalog reproduces iconic plates by Edmond-François Calvo, Will Eisner, Hergé, George Herriman, Winsor McCay and Geo McManus, accompanied by an introductory text by Anne Lemonnier.

Facing the masterpieces of the collections, the fifteen authors are then presented who play the game of confrontation: David B., Edmond Baudoin, Blutch, Philippe Dupuy, Brecht Evens, Gabriella Giandelli, Dominique Goblet, Emmanuel Guibert, Benoît Jacques, Éric Lambé, Lorenzo Mattotti, Catherine Meurisse, Joann Sfar, Anna Sommer and Chris Ware.

For each, a short text sheds light on the connections: homage paid by an author to an artist he considers to be a major source of inspiration, a quote detected in one of his plates, or a more secret link. Through this play of echoes, the reader is invited to renew the way we look at modern art, while deepening our knowledge of the 9th art.
