This special issue of Cahiers du Mnam aims to extend the reflection on the Lettrist legacy and contribute to what one of its most inventive creators, Maurice Lemaître, ardently wished for: a perpetual exegesis, a salutary form of critical practice, constantly evolving and transforming.

The significant donation of works and archives by Maurice Lemaître, made by the Bismuth Lemaître Guymer Endowment Fund in 2021, is part of this same movement of commitment and the desire for a renewed historical writing-problematized and applied to an entire singular practice rooted in its time.

This special issue of Cahiers du Mnam, made possible through the generous support of the Bismuth Lemaître Guymer Endowment Fund, was published on the occasion of the "Maurice Lemaître" exhibition, presented at the Centre Pompidou (Paris), permanent collections, Level 5, Room 36, from October 2, 2024, to March 10, 2025.
