Wifredo Lam
Fine arts

Fom Cuba to Spain and France, Wifredo Lam made a worldwide mark on the artistic field of the 20th century . Painter, designer and sculptor, this French-Cuban artist distinguished himself by combining in a unique way inspirations he would draw from most different sources, due to the modern European artists he mixed with, or to his cultural background.
From his lifetime onwards, many international galleries have been celebrating his work. It was only natural for the Centre Pompidou to follow the movement and pay him an unprecedented tribute. In accordance with the exhibition, the book brings out exclusive documentation on the artist, detailing the various sources of inspiration and analyzing the particular role Picasso and the Surrealists played in his life. Including many unpublished photographs, facsimiles of letters taken from his relatives' archives, the catalog sheds new light on Wifredo Lam's career.
