Description

On the occasion of Marseille-Provence 2013, the European Capital of Culture, the Quai de la Fraternité in the Old Port of Marseille is being remodeled as part of a vast urban redevelopment plan in Marseille. The city has called on the famous British architect and designer Norman Foster & Partners and the landscape architect Michel Desvigne.

At the western end of the Canebière, the vast pedestrian agora esplanade on the edge of the Old Port has been greatly enlarged and partially covered in its southern part by a giant mirror-shade of futuristic design. This giant urban equipment, a sort of work of art, houses among other things the embarkation platform of the Marseille maritime shuttle to La Pointe-Rouge and the Frioul Islands, the fish market of the Old Port of Marseille, and various activities, gatherings and public events.
