Description
The year 1964 marked the emergence of adult comics, in opposition to American comics intended for young people. The exhibition and catalog retrace 60 years of graphic creation and transformation of comics, from Hara Kiri to the most contemporary artists. In twelve themes and through a play of unexpected echoes between the authors, it summons the imagination of comics, the emotions it arouses, as well as the diversity of the techniques used.
Adventure, dreams, laughter, science fiction, architecture and even intimate stories are all themes explored. Among the hundred key personalities gathered, particular attention is paid to women.
The catalog strives to reproduce original plates, cover drawings, notebooks, as well as documentation elements, highlighting the beauty of the line and the variety of techniques used, as close as possible to the creative process.
All of the texts are designed to offer an accessible and ambitious approach to a subject as vast and fascinating as the 9th art. Among them, we can particularly note an interview by Joe Sacco with the critic Paul Gravett, as well as an essay by Tristan Garcia: "Comics and literature: sister arts".
