What can a beach in northern Scotland, the Aso volcano in Japan, a futuristic data center, or the facade of a Florentine church tell us about our planetary condition?
From Macau to Dieppe or Fukushima, from anthropology to the visual arts, from history to performance, twenty-five leading voices in international creativity and thought take stock of the places where the world's transformations are emerging.

Description

From 2020 to 2025, the Centre Pompidou's "Planétarium" series invited leading figures in humanities research and the art world each month to share their views on the transformations that global warming, technological change, and rising global tensions are wreaking on the places we inhabit. From environmental emergencies to the digital transition, from pandemic surveillance to social mobilizations and memory trauma, the authors gathered in this book examine the changing spaces where human action and life unfold, drawing on anthropology, philosophy, or history, or mobilizing multiple forms of expression (performance, visual arts, cinema, etc.).

Punctuated by the abundant illustrations of artist Eric Valette, who revisits our imaginary world of travel and brings together French and international perspectives, the proposed itinerary is intended to be both an atlas of some remarkable places where our future is taking shape, and an inventory of the tools that today's research and creation are forging to map the world to come.

Alternating between chapters and portfolios, creating a dialogue between current thinking and forms of expression, Planetarium offers a fresh perspective on the global challenges of our time.
