Description

Published in 1947, the portfolio "Jazz" marks a pivotal moment in the artist's career, as he transitioned from painting to the art of paper cutting. This significant achievement xould serve as the foundation for his later work. Printing on a Marinoni-Voirin lithographic press at Draeger, the historic printer of the text plates for the Jazz album, has made it possible to recreate the unique quality of the coloured cut-outs and to achieve a perfect reproduction of the colour scheme. Each colour is printed separately from an engraved offset plate and sometimes requires up to 11 successive passes through the press.

The collaboration with Maison Matisse has made it possible to add two previously unpublished calligraphic studies by Matisse to this exceptional object.
