Matisse, 1941-1954 | Exhibition catalogue RMN - Grand Palais
Constellation program
Matisse
Artist
Henri Matisse
Description
This catalogue is dedicated to Matisse's final creative period, from 1941 until his death in 1954. Despite his physical limitations following an operation, he produced his greatest masterpieces during this time: the Vence Chapel, large cut-out gouaches, and Jazz.
The catalogue captures this vital fluidity by bringing together, in a flexible (flexibook) format with elegant design, beautiful reproductions of his works, primarily full-page, alongside rarely seen photographs of the works in his studio, taken by leading figures in the medium (Adant, Capa, Carone, Cartier-Bresson, Sima, etc.). This iconographic dialogue, accompanied by texts from specialists, allows for a deeper understanding of the works of this last decade and a full grasp of the osmosis between Matisse's art and life.
